(more) Striker options for Next Season
|
Lets have a look at the top scorers in the European Leagues and consider if there are any realistic targets (age in brackets):
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (34), 38 goals, France 1.31 goals per game (gpg) Still got is at 34 with 38 goals in 29 starts. Probably on his way to Man Utd.
Luis Suarez (29), 40 goals, Spain 1.14 gpg 40 goals in 35 starts for the hungry striker. No chance.
Gonzalo Higuain (28), 36 goals, Italy 1.03 gpg Impressive 36 goals in 35 starts for the Napoli forward but arguably world class and highly unlikely to be a realistic target for us.
Mario Gomez (30), 26 goals, Turkey 0.84 gpg On loan from Fiorentina, scored 26 goals in 31 starts. Returns to Fiorentina but could be available if they were prepared to loan him out last season?
Vincent Jassen (21), 27 goals, Netherlands 0.84 gpg First season in the top flight of Holland and he scored 27 goals in 32 starts. Scored 19 the season before in the tier below, looks a hot prospect. Europe League Play off's with AZ this season so West Ham could be good step-up?
Islam Slimani (27), 27 goals, Portugal 0.82 gpg Top scorere in Portugal with 27 goals in 33 starts. Qualified for the Champions League with his club so might be a difficult target.
Sofianne Hanni (25) 14 goals, Belgium 0.53 gpg 14 in regular season but a total of 17 in 32 starts including play-offs. Not quite as prolific as the above.
There are some obvious strikers out of our reach in this list, but there are some interesting choices there that don't seem to have been mooted so far this summer.
Although 30, Mario Gomez would be a cracking signing for the price. Bags of experience, goals in abundance and possibly available?
Slimani seems to know where the goal is too and is a ripe age for a striker at 27. I expect he'll be quite expensive but not as expensive as the likes of Lacazette who we've already had bids turned down for.
Jassen has plenty of potential and has had a great first season in the Eredivisie following on from a prolific season the year before in the league below. I expect he'll be sought after and his goals will bring in bids from, firstly some of the bigger clubs in Holland and perhaps some clubs in Europe too. It might be too early to tell but certainly worth considering?

Elliott Lee has had plenty of chances to prove himself and has not taken them. Berahino has had an awful season and clearly has a major attitude problem. Deeney is just bang average, by PL standards.
Steer well clear of them all.

so some people think that we should give Elliot Lee , who can't score for love nor money in the lower leagues , and has rightly been released a go ... Or sign Troy Deeney for about £20 mil despite the fact that basically , he is shit

Rashford only played because Man Utd had an injury crisis up front.
What's to say that doesn't happen again next season?

After quoting my comment you forgot to add 'as i cant see him playing much if ibra arrives'
If Ibrahimovic comes in you honestly think someone like Rashford will progress as much as he has this season? He will not get nowhere near as much gametime under Jose than he did under LVG. An arrogant and classy player like Ibrahimovic will demand to play every game and Rashford will struggle for starts. Jose also only looks to play one man up top. Drogba, Costa etc.
Jose has a habit of benching young players and not giving them a chance. Look at the likes of Lukaku and De Bruyne for example. They were sold for what chelsea believed to be a good price and now look. Lukaku is better than any striker they have and De bruyne would easily be on of their best players and worth 60 million. Jose did not see their potential or give them the time of day.
Jose does not put his faith in young players and will look to sign one or two class strikers. You may laugh at Rashford going out on Loan but if he wants to continue his progression I think he would be open to a years loan at another premier league club whilst Ibrahimovic takes center stage next year.

I can't imagine Payet being much of a threat in the air, but good playing just off the striker.

I agree with you. I think Payet would also be a viable and interesting (very different) choice up front.

Because it's a forum and that's what it's for. Why don't you say if you disagree and why, instead of being a prick?

I've said it before, but I think Antonio could make an excellent striker. He has proved himself as a superb finisher and his pace and power would terrify defenders.

LJC the Berahino Valencia plus cash swap.
Does that mean Berahino on his own would be for £25 million?
Or we give them Valencia and £35 million and they give us Berahino?

It really is the silly season Rashford on loan!! Plus classic who quotes If it was Rashford on loan with a view to a permanent deal then great, but that's highly unlikely. You think
Why would we take rashford to enhance his experience and give him first team experience Please just listen to yourself
Think a loan move as mentioned below could be a good move for him Honestly, I mean to say really
Rashford on loan is where my money's goin' ;-) Joking aside, I'd take that. Would you, would you really
This is the same Marcus Rashford that may be going to the Euros, the same Marcus Rashford that scored 8 goals in 17 appearances. Un be fucking leivable

Think Moses was more of a stop gap signing, plus when he was signed I don't think anyone within the club expected us to have such a good season, or Antonio to hit the ground like he has done.
Because of the season, and imminent move to the OS we are an attractive proposition for players now.
